Arts Administrator

As an extension of his teaching experience, Micah was chair of the Winds, Brass, and Percussion Department at the Third Street Music School from 2007-2013, and community partnerships coordinator from 2007-2010. Soon after finishing his MA in Music Education, Micah co-founded Up and At Them where he co-wrote, produced, and acted in original shows for kids that combined elements of video games, live sampling, theater, and dance, set to a live chamber orchestra performance centered on conflict resolution. He also served as director of educational outreach for the American Russian Youth Orchestra, programming outreach concerts for two separate chamber music tours in Russia.

This was Up and At Them! We wrote, produced, and performed a series of kids' shows around the US, pairing chamber music, video games, live sampling, dance, and plays about bullying. Kids concerts should amaze, challenge, inspire, and affirm!

My good friend and collaborator for almost 20 years, Nathaniel Zeisler, invited me to be a part of this conference in Kansas City. In this photo, I was on a panel discussing the value of artists diversifying their portfolios. This is still a topic Nathan and I feel passionate about, and we’re hoping to finalize a few projects in that direction in the near future!

Micah has also served on the board of Dave Douglas’ Festival of New Trumpet Music (FONT) while coordinating logistics for the festival. More recently, he served on the production team with the Air Force Band, where he conceived and produced a number of audio/visual pieces for the squadron. Micah is currently working on a number of projects with Nathaniel Zeisler of the Colburn School aimed at helping recent graduates attain and maintain sustainable careers in the arts.
